"The Prisoner's Song" is a song copyrighted by Vernon Dalhart in 1924 in the name of Dalhart's cousin Guy Massey, who had sung it while staying at Dalhart's home and had in turn heard it from his brother Robert Massey, who may have heard it while serving time in prison.

Massey has worked with The Beatles, Paul Simon, Ed Sheeran, Manic Street Preachers, Ray Davies, and Bill Fay, amongst others.

He was first lured into the the world of recording after visiting a local studio under a railway station in his native Liverpool, England. "It was a magical place to me — dark, dingy, and full of possibilities," he says.
