Ronald Lacey was a British character actor whose career spanned more than thirty years; his was a face familiar from a variety of television and film appearances, but it was his performance as the evil Major Toht in Raiders of the Lost Ark that gained him international recognition and a place in popular culture.
Ronald Lacey began his acting career in 1960, cast in his first TV film (The Jelly End Strike) in 1961, with more film roles in films like Zulu Dawn, Nijinsky, Trenchcoat, Flesh and Blood, Lone Runner and Landlside.
Ronald Lacey will forever be remembered by audiences around the world as the very nasty "Toht" in the blockbuster Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, but he has a substantial body of work that began in 1959, covering film and television and over 170 different roles until his sad death in 1991.
