Herbert Lewis Hardwick Arroyo (May 2, 1914 – December 27, 1966), also known as "Cocoa Kid", was a Puerto Rican boxer of African descent who fought primarily as a welterweight but also in the middleweight division. Hardwick won the World Colored Championships in both divisions.

Box-pro 250 bouts. The records of both Cocoa Kid and Bell, in various editions of The Ring Record Book, give the result as a draw as does the Chicago Tribune. Also, the report of Gene Engel in The Ring, April 1947, page 48, indicate that the result was a draw.

9 ott 2023 · Herbert Lewis “Cocoa Kid” Hardwick finished his career with a record of 179 -58-11, 48 KOs. Afterward, he became a sparring partner for upcoming contenders for money. Including the great Sugar Ray Robinson, who was knocked down during a sparring session by Cocoa as he helped prepare Ray for a match.
Cocoa Kid. Born Herbert Lewis Hardwick on May 2, 1914 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. He turned pro in 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He soon relocated to New Haven, CT after being discovered by future state Senator Harry Durant, who sponsored his move to the Northeast in 1932.
