Brian Jay Downing (born October 9, 1950) is an American former professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball from 1973 to 1992, originally as a catcher before converting to an outfielder and designated hitter later in his career.

29 ott 2019 · Brian Downing played twenty years in the majors and was an early bodybuilder, who transformed from a weak hitting catcher to a solidly-built outfielder. As a child growing up in Southern California, Downing attended the 1959 World Series at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
In his first full season, 1974, Downing showed good power with 10 HR in 293 at-bats, but hit only .225. The White Sox’ number-one catcher in 1975, he hit .240 with seven HR in 420 at-bats.
Brian Downing retired as the Angels franchise leader in walks, hits, doubles, homers, & RBI; he was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2009.
