Hot Wheels: AcceleRacers was a computer-animated series of four films (Ignition, The Speed of Silence, Breaking Point, The Ultimate Race) created by Mainframe Entertainment in partnership with Mattel Entertainment. First aired on Cartoon Network, the AcceleRacers film series debuted on 8 January 2005.

Hot Wheels: AcceleRacers took place two years after the events of the Hot Wheels: World Race film and followed Dr. Peter Tezla’s continued research into an ancient race of aliens called the Accelerons. After new discoveries and struggles over the Wheel of Power, he recruited several Teku and Metal Maniacs racing gang members alongside former World ...

    Teku

The Teku were a street racing gang led by Nolo Pasaro (formerly Tone Pasaro). It consisted of five or more members with a focus of technological modification and foreign tuner styling.

    Metal Maniacs

The Metal Maniacs were a “welded” street racing gang led by Tork Maddox. It consisted of five or more members with a focus of muscle cars and rat rod styling.

    Silencerz

The Silencerz were a team of three or more drivers led by Major Jack Wheeler Jr. Their vehicles and suits contained various technologically advanced abilities that gave them advantages over their enemies.

    Ignition

Ignition opened with a failed attempt by Dr. Peter Tezla to retrieve the Wheel of Power from its resting place at the center of Hot Wheels City in Highway 35. A Racing Drone jet disabled Dr. Tezla's vehicle, Nitrium, and simultaneously captured the artifact. Dr. Tezla plummeted to the streets below and attained multiple grave injuries. He managed to escape to the aid of his X-88 robotic assistant, Gig, in the desert without his car using a prototype Emergency Driver Return after having been spotted by Gelorum and an RD-L1 leader. Former World Race drivers Josef "Vert" Wheeler, Kurt Wylde, Taro Kitano, and Mark Wylde, now members of the Teku and Metal Maniacs street racing gangs, prepared for a grudge on the California coastline. Interrupted by several crashes, Gig appeared and informed the group of Dr. Tezla's continued research and findings. The drivers proceeded to leave their leaders, Nolo Pasaro and Tork Maddox, behind for a meeting with former Dune Ratz driver, Brian "Zone" Kadeem at Dr. Tezla's weathered and abandoned Cube. Kadeem redirected the group to the newly constructed AcceleDrome base where a hologram of Dr. Tezla appeared and explained the Wheel of Power's newfound use as a portal to inter-dimensional Racing Realms. A brief reunition with former Wave Rippers driver and intercom operator, Lani Tam, took place in the meeting room followed by a realm opening. The group performed modifications, filled their tanks with Nitrox2 booster fuel, and entered the holographic portal through an intersecting array of track. The Storm Realm began with a vertical free-fall through an abyssal electric storm that led to an eventual track and horizontal straightaway. Gelorum learned of the human drivers presence through a Recon Drone and ordered their destruction to an RD-L1 leader alongside a fleet of RD-S1 soldiers. The RD-L1 equipped an Accele-Charger and transformed its RD-08 into a Slam Ram HyperPod. After ramming several drivers and destroying Mitchell "Monkey" McClurg's vehicle, Rollin' Thunder, with an energy ball, the RD-L1 found a Dragster HyperPod.

    The Speed of Silence

Dr. Tezla was in the middle of a prophetic dream where Gelorum and the Racing Drones had attained all of the AcceleChargers and found the AcceleDrome. He was woken by Gig, who offered Dr. Tezla his biosuit. All drivers had gathered in a meeting where Lani, Gig, and Dr. Tezla announced the addition of reverse engineered tires and E.D.R. devices to their vehicles. After multiple conflicts where Taro questioned why Kadeem didn’t have an E.D.R. among other issues, the drivers began working on their cars.

    Breaking Point

Vert was overlooking the coast near his hometown after having left the AcceleDrome in defeat, thinking the others were better off without him due to his inability to save Kadeem and win an AcceleCharger. Lani and Taro were reviewing Karma’s onboard camera video from the Ice Realm and found a glitch that had erased part of the recording, which led them both to question what had actually taken place. The Silencerz were introduced in the midst of preparation for the next Realm. Six unknown drivers proceeded down tubes that led to seating positions on multiple vehicle chassis. Liquid metal configured into the body of Accelium among other designs. The stealth, attacking, cloaking, and defense capabilities of Iridium were tested by several scientists before the full team departed into their hologram portal.

•Fog Realm: Little is known about the Fog Realm except that it was completed prior to the events portrayed in AcceleRacers.

•Monument Realm: Little is know about the Monument Realm except that it was completed prior to the events portrayed in AcceleRacers.

•Warped Realm: A Racing realm where there are no laws of pysics, not even gravity. It was completed prior to the events portrayed in AcceleRacers.

•Storm Realm: The Storm Realm is a Racing Realm with tracks that loop and curve around the sides of clouds, as if they were clinging to colossal mountainsides. The Storm Realm is an electrically charged world of flickering lightning and booming thunder. This realm tests a driver's ability to focus and avoid distraction.

•Swamp Realm: The Swamp Realm is a Racing Realm that features a winding track that curves through and around gigantic jungle trees growing from fetid swamp below. Giant worms, giant mosquitoes, and hungry creatures lurk in the shadows and are ready to take out the drivers. The track itself is alive and continuously growing, forcing drivers to constantly choose the best terrain at any given moment.

•Cavern Realm: The dark and daunting Cavern Realm features sudden turns and stops, unexpected drops and dips, and sections of track that veer into total darkness as well as falling boulders and giant bats. The Accelerons designed the Cavern Realm to test a driver's ability to drive in the dark while avoiding obstacles. As such, stalactites and stalagmites appear throughout the course.

AcceleChargers are items given to whoever wins each racing realm. The AcceleChargers helps a vehicles in different locations depending on the realm you're in or what conditions you are driving in. The AcceleChargers are:

•Canyon Realm AcceleCharger: Won by Racing Drones.

•Chrome Realm AcceleCharger: Won by Racing Drones.

•Wind Realm AcceleCharger: Allows driver's car to move through the strongest gusts of wind Won by Racing Drones.

•Solar Realm AcceleCharger: Won by Racing Drones.

•Labyrinth Realm AcceleCharger: Won by Racing Drones.

Due to a combination of poor product sales, marketing, and failure to keep up with competing brands, the AcceleRacers Series was finally laid to rest in 2005. Concepts from this lineup went on to influence the later Stunt Strikers film project, Speed Racer action figure series, and BattleRacers series.
