The only coral island in the Virgin Islands’ volcanic chain, Anegada is characterized by its nearly flat elevation, the striking coral reefs that surround it, secluded sandy beaches and clear springs bubbling from coral beds.
Tina marries Evan, an American writer, despite her respectable mother's disapproval. They settle in a house on a desert island and run out of money until the writer accepts some work. When Tina has a baby, they build a series of ingenious devices to increase their comfort.
With their combined life savings of $85, fiercely independent archeologist Evan (John Cassavetes) and his wife Tina (Virginia Maskell) purchase an island in the tropics. They create an idyllic home-away-from-home with the help of resourceful islander Marcus (Sidney Poitier).
