Backfire! (also known as Backfire) is a 1962 second feature British film directed by Paul Almond and starring Alfred Burke, Zena Marshall and Oliver Johnston. Part of the long-running series of Edgar Wallace Mysteries films made at Merton Park Studios, it was based on a story by Edgar Wallace.

7 mag 2022 · Director Paul Almond’s 1962 British black and white Merton Park second feature thriller film Backfire! stars Alfred Burke, Zena Marshall and Oliver Johnston. It is a cheap and humble but reasonably satisfactory Edgar Wallace mystery support feature about an insurance man investigating arson and murder at a cosmetics factory.
This is a good entry in the Merton Park Studios Edgar Wallace series. Director Paul Almond drives the narrative forward with breathless momentum keeping the story focussed and avoiding any unnecessary distractions.

The 1962 film Backfire - there have been several with this title - is a cheaply made British B feature adapted from a story by Edgar Wallace. A cosmetic company is trading at a loss and has severe cash flow problems. One of the partners, Mitchell Logan, suggests starting a fire and claiming the insurance money but the company's founder disagrees.
