Mamadou Diabate was born into a traditional musician family (Sambla people) in Burkina Faso (West Africa), with a long tradition of practising the profession of story telling and music making. At the age of 5 he started his professional training with his father Penegue Diabate, who in his days was considered the best balafon player far beyond the bordes of the sambla culture.
Mamadou Diabaté (born 1973) is a Burkinabe musician mostly known for his balafon playing. He lives in Vienna, Austria and has toured internationally with his ensemble Mamadou Diabaté & Percussion Mania.

23 mar 2022 · Percussionist and composer Mamadou Diabaté was born in Wagadugu, Burkina Faso in 1973. He began his musical training at the age of five with his father Penegue Diabate and three years after that, he learned from other skilled balafon players. In 1988 and 1998 he won first prize at the National Culture Week of Burkina.
Bamako, Mali. Mamadou Diabaté is a Malian musician and descendant of a griot family that has played music since the 13th century. His father was the great kora player, Sidiki Diabaté, and his brother, Toumani Diabaté, is widely acclaimed to be one of the best kora players in the world.
