Esmond Romilly, nephew of Winston Churchill, was a volunteer in the Thaelmann Battalion, 12th International Brigade, during the Spanish Civil War. He wrote a book about his experiences, including the tragic battle of Boadilla del Monte, where many British comrades were killed.
