Generale tedesco (Helmscherode, Harz, 1882 - Norimberga 1946). Partecipò alla prima guerra mondiale; quindi entrò nella Reichswehr (1919); con l'ordinamento dato al supremo comando delle forze armate tedesche, nel 1938 fu nominato capo di stato maggiore generale e ministro della Difesa del Reich, in sostituzione del gen. W. von Blomberg.
Keitel svolse un ruolo importante nello sventare il complotto del 20 luglio 1944 contro Hitler. Dopo il suicidio del Führer, il 30 aprile 1945, fu per breve tempo membro del governo dell'ammiraglio Karl Dönitz.
