Frederick "Fred" Moore Vinson (January 22, 1890 – September 8, 1953) was an American attorney and politician who served as the 13th chief justice of the United States from 1946 until his death in 1953. Vinson was one of the few Americans to have served in all three branches of the U.S. government.

Chief Justice of the United States. Justice Frederick “Fred” Moore Vinson is one of the few people to have occupied positions in all three branches of the federal government, and was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court for seven years. Vinson was born in the rural town of Louisa, Kentucky in 1890.

On June 6, 1946, President Truman nominated Vinson to the Chief Justice seat on the U.S. Supreme Court. The Senate confirmed him on June 20, and he took the judicial oath four days later. Vinson would spend the last seven years of his life on the Court.
Fred M. Vinson. was the 13th Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, succeeding Harlan Fiske Stone. Formerly Secretary of the Treasury, Vinson was nominated for Chief Justice by President Harry Truman on June 6, 1946.
