After a letter pleading ill health, he was dismissed by George IV in January 1828, recovering virtually instantaneously. Goderich was born Frederick John Robinson in 1782. He was the son of an aristocratic Yorkshire family, and his father was the Foreign Secretary, Lord Robinson.
