Oboi (Manchu: ᠣᠪᠣᡳ, Mölendorff: Oboi; simplified Chinese: 鳌拜; traditional Chinese: 鰲拜; pinyin: Áobài) (c. 1610 –1669) was a prominent Manchu military commander and courtier who served in various military and administrative posts under three successive emperors of the early Qing dynasty.
Gūwalgiya was one of the most powerful Manchu clans. It is often listed by historians as the first of the eight prominent Manchu clans of the Qing dynasty. After the demise of the dynasty, some of its descendants sinicized their clan name to the Han Chinese surname Guan (關).

I've read that following the death of Sonin, the regent Oboi was able to amass a large amount of power and was essentially able to bully the emperor into acquiescing to Suksaha's execution in 1667. However, in 1669, Kangxi was apparently powerful enough to charge Oboi with a series of crimes and imprison him.

In 1634, in return for his military services, he was granted an hereditary commission as niru i janggin (captain of a company) and appointed to the position of colonel.
