Arteshbod Gholam Reza Azhari (Persian: غلامرضا ازهاری; 18 February 1912 – 5 November 2001) was an Iranian military leader who served as the 39th and penultimate Prime Minister of Iran under the reign of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.

The Shah ordered Gholam Reza Azhari at 5 November 1978 to lead the military government at the time of growing protests in the country. The selection of General Azhari was taken as an indirect signal to the revolutionaries that the regime had lost its resolve to resist and play it tough. [2]

Following his elementary and secondary education in 1933 he entered the officers college. He started his military career as second lieutenant. In 1937, he went to the rank of colonel and was appointed assistant commander of military police.
