Fu ambasciatore in Russia dal 10 agosto 1804 al 1807 e in Francia all'epoca della restaurazione borbonica tra il 1824 e il 1828, il 1830 e il 1835, il 1835 e il 1841; nel 1815 ebbe il titolo di visconte Granville di Stone Park nella contea di Stafford; nel 1833 divenne barone Leveson e conte Granville.

Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Marquess of Stafford, KG PC (4 August 1721 – 26 October 1803), known as Viscount Trentham from 1746 to 1754 and as The Earl Gower from 1754 to 1786, was a British politician from the Leveson-Gower family.
Biografia. Era il primogenito di Granville Leveson-Gower, I marchese di Stafford, e della sua prima moglie, Lady Louisa Scroop. Studiò a Westminster School e alla Christ Church di Oxford . Carriera politica e diplomatica. Fu deputato per Newcastle-under-Lyme (1779-1784) e per Staffordshire (1787-1799).
When he died childless in 1803 his complicated will left the profits of the Bridgewater Canal to Lord Stafford’s (Earl Gower became Marquis of Stafford in 1786) eldest son, George Granville Leveson Gower, the future first Duke of Sutherland.
