Seit 1866 führte Fürst Chlodwig zu Hohenlohe genaue Aufzeichnungen über die wichtigsten Ereignisse in seinem Leben. Nach Niederlegung seines Amtes als Reichskanzler bereitete er die Veröffentlichung vor, diese konnte jedoch auf Grund seines Todes nicht mehr erfolgen.
