Cataloghi. Il titolo comitale fu conferito da Riccardo II (1397) a John Beaufort (1373-1410), figlio illegittimo di John di Gaunt duca di Lancaster, e passò ai suoi tre figli Henry (m. 1418), John (1404-1444), che nel 1443 diventerà duca di S., ed Edmund Beaufort (v.).
