Ruth Wilson Gilmore (born April 2, 1950) is a prison abolitionist and prison scholar. She is the Director of the Center for Place, Culture, and Politics and professor of geography in Earth and Environmental Sciences at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

Ruth Wilson Gilmore is a professor of geography and director of the Center for Place, Culture, and Politics at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She writes about racial capitalism, abolition, and social movements, and has co-edited a volume on Stuart Hall.
Since then, journalists and activists with questions about the meaning, vision, and practice of abolition have repeatedly turned to the geographer and organizer Ruth Wilson Gilmore. In her scholarship, Gilmore has rigorously exposed the political and economic forces that have led to the incarceration of over 2 million people in the United States.
