August Hermann Francke (German: [ˈaʊ̯ɡʊst ˈhɛʁ.man ˈfʁaŋkə] ⓘ; 22 March 1663 – 8 June 1727) was a German Lutheran clergyman, theologian, philanthropist, and Biblical scholar. His evangelistic fervour and pietism got him expelled as lecturer from the universities of Dresden and Leipzig and as deacon from Erfurt.
August Hermann Francke war ein deutscher evangelischer Theologe, Pfarrer, Pädagoge und Kirchenlieddichter. Er war einer der Hauptvertreter des Halleschen Pietismus und gründete im Jahr 1698 die bis heute bestehenden Franckeschen Stiftungen.
Teologo e educatore, nato a Lubecca il 12 marzo 1663, morto a Halle l'8 giugno 1727. Dopo aver studiato teologia a Erfurt e a Kiel, divenne magister all'università di Lipsia e suscitò tra gli scolari tanto entusiasmo religioso, che gli fu proibito di continuare l'insegnamento.

Das Zentrum des Halleschen Pietismus bildete die 1698 von August Hermann Francke gegründete Schulstadt, die als »Pflanzstätte« für Kinder und Jugendliche eine Universalreform der Gesellschaft durch breite Bildung und Erziehung zur Selbstverantwortung nach christlichen Maßstäben anstrebte.
