Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyya ist ein Sohn von Imam Ali (a.) und seiner Frau Chaula bint Dschafar al-Hanafiyya. Er ist benannt nach seiner Mutter. Er war ein mutiger Kämpfer und sein Vater, Imam Ali (a.) nannte ihn einmal "meine rechte Hand".
