Benjamin Jowett (/ ˈ dʒ oʊ ɪ t /, modern variant / ˈ dʒ aʊ ɪ t /; 15 April 1817 – 1 October 1893) was an English writer and classical scholar. Additionally, he was an administrative reformer in the University of Oxford , theologian, Anglican cleric , and translator of Plato and Thucydides . [4]
Benjamin Jowett was a British classical scholar, considered to be one of the greatest teachers of the 19th century. He was renowned for his translations of Plato and as an outstanding tutor of great influence who became master of Balliol College, Oxford.
