Cecilia of Sweden (Swedish: Cecilia Gustavsdotter Vasa) (16 November 1540 in Stockholm – 27 January 1627 in Brussels), was Princess of Sweden as the daughter of King Gustav I and his second wife, Margaret Leijonhufvud, and Margravine of Baden-Rodemachern as the wife of Christopher II, Margrave of Baden-Rodemachern.
Cecilia Vasa var en svensk prinsessa och markgrevinna av Baden-Rodemachern, dotter till Gustav Vasa och Margareta Leijonhufvud. Hon var involverad i en skandal om ett hemligt äktenskap med Johan av Ostfriesland, kallad Vadstenabullret.
29 apr 2024 · There was just one problem: money. Gustav Vasa is often portrayed as the people’s king, but his court was one of the most opulent in Sweden, and Cecilia grew up in this environment. Even if that hadn’t been the case, balancing a budget and making sure the money was enough wasn’t easy for her.
Princess Cecilia Vasa is the best-known and most famous of Gustav Vasa and Margareta Leijonhufvud’s five daughters. Cecilia Vasa, like her sisters, had a caring childhood, which was intended to prepare her for her future as the wife of a foreign prince.
When Cecilia died 27th January 1627 as the last surviving of Gustav Vasa's children, a new little princess had been born into the Vasa family just over a month earlier. Her name was Christina and she would grow up to be queen of Sweden and just as free spirited as her great aunt.
