François Jacob (Nancy, 17 giugno 1920 – Parigi, 20 aprile 2013) è stato un biologo francese, vincitore, insieme ad André Lwoff e Jacques Monod, del premio Nobel per la medicina nel 1965, per «le scoperte riguardanti il controllo genetico della sintesi di virus ed enzimi».

Compagnon de la Libération par décret du 17 novembre 1945, il est chancelier de l'ordre d' octobre 2007 à octobre 2011 .
François Jacob (17 June 1920 – 19 April 2013) was a French biologist who, together with Jacques Monod, originated the idea that control of enzyme levels in all cells occurs through regulation of transcription. He shared the 1965 Nobel Prize in Medicine with Jacques Monod and André Lwoff.
François Jacob is a French biologist who won the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his work on bacterial genetics and regulation. He studied lysogeny, conjugation, messenger RNA, operons, replicons and cell division in bacteria, and later turned to mammalian cell genetics and developmental biology.
Entrato nel 1950 nel reparto di fisiologia microbica dell'Istituto Pasteur di Parigi, nel 1960 vi divenne capo del reparto di genetica microbica; prof. di genetica cellulare al Collège de France dal 1964. Nel 1965 gli fu attribuito il premio Nobel per la medicina o la fisiologia, insieme con A. Lwoff e J. Monod.
