Norman Foster Ramsey Jr. (August 27, 1915 – November 4, 2011) was an American physicist who was awarded the 1989 Nobel Prize in Physics for the invention of the separated oscillatory field method (see Ramsey interferometry ), which had important applications in the construction of atomic clocks.

Norman Foster Ramsey Jr. (Washington, 27 agosto 1915 – Wayland, 4 novembre 2011) è stato un fisico statunitense, vincitore, insieme a Wolfgang Paul e Hans Dehmelt, del premio Nobel per la fisica nel 1989, per «l'invenzione del metodo dei campi oscillatori separati e il suo utilizzo nel maser ad idrogeno e in altri orologi atomici».

Norman Ramsey. Norman Foster Ramsey, Jr. (1915-2011) was an American physicist and winner of the 1989 Nobel Prize in Physics. In 1940 Ramsey began work at the Radiation Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he led the group researching radar with a 3-centimeter wavelength.
