Stig of the Dump is a children's novel by Clive King which was first published in the United Kingdom in 1963. It is regarded as a modern children's classic and is often read in schools. [1] It was illustrated by Edward Ardizzone and has been twice adapted for television, in 1981 and in 2002.

The quarry is under threat as a development company has plans to fill it in. Stig has disappeared and desperate to get home. Can Barney get Stig back home?
Modern-day eight-year-old Barney (Grant Ashley Warnock) meets Stig (Keith Jayne) – a boy from prehistoric times living in a cave in chalk pits that are used as a rubbish dump. Barney and Stig quickly become friends and learn to communicate with each other without language, as Stig speaks no English.
Barney is ten years old, spending a lonely summer with his grandparents. One day while wandering, he is chased by village bullies and tumbles down an overgrown quarry. There he meets Stig, a caveman, hundreds of thousands years old.
