Biografia. Nativo di una cittadina in Zelanda, era figlio del pittore Nicolas de Zieriksee e dal 1506 - 1509 fu apprendista presso il pittore di vetrate Simon van Daele ad Anversa . Si specializzò in pittura di genere e soggetto storici, arrivando a una carriera di quarant'anni.
Marinus van Reymerswaele or Marinus van Reymerswale (c. 1490 – c. 1546) was a Dutch Renaissance painter mainly known for his genre scenes and religious compositions. After studying in Leuven and training and working as an artist in Antwerp, he returned later to work in his native Northern Netherlands. [1]

Reymerswale, Marinus van. As part of the Royal Collection, the City Treasurer and his Wife (the so-called Money Changer and his Wife) is one of the few paintings by Marinus in Spain that can be traced to the eighteenth century, and one which played a decisive role in the rediscovery of the painter’s work.
Together with the followers of Quinten Massys, Marinus van Reymerswaele was one of a group of 16 th-century Dutch artists who specialised in genre scenes and his most frequently depicted subjects were those of tax collectors, money-changers and merchants.
