Robert Venturi, nato a Philadelphia, si reca in Italia a studiare l’architettura romana per ben due volte. Un primo breve viaggio lo compie nel 1948, un altro dal 1954 al 1956 grazie ai finanziamenti dell’Accademia Americana a Roma.
