HOWELLS, William Dean. Letterato americano, nato il 1° marzo 1837 a Martinsville (Ohio), morto a New York il 10 maggio 1919. Il padre di H. fu stampatore in diverse parti dello stato di Ohio, e H. stesso lavorava in gioventù nelle stamperie, collaborando anche a diversi giornali.
