Letterato e filosofo tedesco, nato a Hannover il 10 marzo 1772, morto a Dresda il 12 gennaio 1829. Destinato dapprima al commercio, studiò poi a Gottinga e a Lipsia, dove un'avventura amorosa lo avvolse in debiti che l'oppressero tutta la vita.
