Johann Heinrich Voß (* 20. Februar 1751 in Sommerstorf; † 29. März 1826 in Heidelberg) war ein deutscher Dichter, Übersetzer und Hochschullehrer. Berühmt ist er für seine Übertragungen von Homers Epen ( Ilias, Odyssee) und anderer Klassiker der Antike.

15 apr 2024 · Johann Heinrich Voss was a German poet remembered chiefly for his translations of Homer. Voss was the son of a farmer. In 1772 he went to Göttingen, where he studied theology (briefly) and philology and became one of the leading spirits of the Göttinger Hain, a group of young poets.

Voss fu un ammiratore di Klopstock e traduttore dell'Odissea, ma il suo capolavoro fu la Luise, un poema in esametri sulla figlia di un parroco. Nominato professore a Heidelberg, si dedicò anche alla raccolta di materiale erudito e alle polemiche contro i romantici.
