For 450 years we have educated the children of south-east London, changing to suit modern needs. We are an academically selective school for girls and boys age 3-18. The aims of Colfe’s School as determined within the strategic plan.
Abraham Colfe (7 Aug 1580 – 5 Dec 1657) was vicar of Lewisham from 1610 to 1657 and a notable English philanthropist, founding Colfe's School, a reading (primary) or Latin school and five almshouses for the inhabitants of Lewisham (today, part of south-east London).
Colfe’s is one of the oldest schools in south-east London, established by our founder Abraham Colfe back in 1652. We are a co-educational independent school for children ages 3-18.
Every year, the Company carries out an official visitation to check on progress at the school; and every year Colfe’s pupils visit the Leathersellers’ Hall to learn about the long history of the school and the Company. Below is a time line of the school’s history from the 14th century to today.
Head’s Welcome. Colfe’s is one of the oldest schools in London, established by our founder Abraham Colfe back in 1652. Our links with the Leathersellers’ City Livery Company – who have governed the school since then – still remain strong today.
