  5. Biography. Beckwith graduated from Amherst College in 1973 and from Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University in 1978. He was ordained as an Episcopal priest in 1980. He served as associate rector at St Peter's Church in Morristown, New Jersey from 1982-1985, then became rector of Christ Church in Hackensack, New Jersey (1985-1993).
