The history of the Ludwik Solski Academy began in 1946 with a three-year training course in drama for prospective actors. In 1949 the name of the school was changed to the State College of Acting ( Państwowa Wyższa Szkoła Aktorska ), and the curriculum extended to four years.

14 lug 2022 · The history of the AST National Academy of Theatre Arts in Krakow (AST) – former the Ludwik Solski State Drama School in Cracow (PWST) dates back to 1946. For more than seventy years the academy has been educating actors of various specializations, directors, and playwrights.
Ludwik Solski, nome completo Ludwik Napoleon Karol Sosnowski (Gdów, 20 gennaio 1855 – Cracovia, 19 dicembre 1954), è stato un attore teatrale e direttore teatrale polacco noto per la lunga attività, iniziata nel 1876 e terminata all'età di novantanove anni con uno spettacolo nel quale, tuttavia, interpretava il protagonista.
Lupa is also one of the most important teachers of directing at the Ludwik Solski Academy for the Dramatic Arts in Kraków, where his students have included the newest generation of Polish directors: Krzysztof Warlikowski, Grzegorz Jarzyna, Maja Kleczewska, Anna Augustynowicz, Michal Zadara and Jan Klata.

The school's present name - the Ludwik Solski State Theatre School - has been in use since 1955. In 1962 the school was granted the status of an academic institution.
