Peter Stephen Paul Brook nacque a Londra Chiswick nel 1925. Il padre, Simon Brook, nato in Lettonia da una famiglia di piccoli negozianti, emigrò giovanissimo, nel 1907, a Parigi per motivi politici, seguito dalla ragazza che sarebbe diventata di lì a poco sua moglie, Ida Janson.
