Split-Dalmatia County is a county in Croatia. The county seat is Split. Administrative division. Split-Dalmatia County is divided into 16 cities and 39 municipalities. Note that both cities and municipalities are administrative divisions immediately under the county, on the same level.
Split-Dalmatia County is the largest Croatian county with a total area of 14106.40 km2. Of this total area, a surface area of 4523.64 km2 (8% of the Republic of Croatia) is covered by land, and the sea covers a surface area of 9576.40 km2 (30.8% of the sea surface of the Republic of Croatia).
Due to the favourable climate, water, fertile soil and position people settled early on the area that today is Split-Dalmatia County. During the Palaeolithic era, man was a nomad and hunter. His successor, Neolithic man, who found the village, worked the ground and began a sedentary way of life.
