Overview. An Ideal Husband is a play by Oscar Wilde that follows the story of Sir Robert Chiltern, a respected politician who is blackmailed by the scheming Mrs. Cheveley. Sir Robert’s wife, Lady Chiltern, is initially horrified by her husband’s past actions, but ultimately she forgives him.
