Leon Bismark "Bix" Beiderbecke (/ ˈ b aɪ d ər b ɛ k / BY-dər-bek; March 10, 1903 – August 6, 1931) was an American jazz cornetist, pianist and composer.
Bix Beiderbecke, American jazz cornetist who was an outstanding improviser and composer of the 1920s and whose style is characterized by lyricism and purity of tone. He was the first major white jazz soloist. Such recordings as ‘I’m Coming, Virginia’ and ‘Singin’ the Blues’ remain jazz classics.

Leon Bix Beiderbecke was born on March 10th, 1903 to a Middle-class German family in Davenport, Iowa. Bix’s Parents were named Bismark and Agatha. Bix had two siblings as well: an older brother named Charles(nicknamed Bernie), and a sister named Louise.
