AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY. Joseph Stein was born on May 30, 1912, in New York City, the son of Charles and Emma (Rosenblum) Stein, Polish immigrants who emigrated to the United States. Growing up in the Bronx, Stein’s father read him the stories of Sholom Aleichem, a noted author of Jewish folk tales.
Joseph Allen Stein was born in Nebraska on April 10, 1912. After completing his studies at the University of Illinois and Ecole des Beaux Arts at Fountainebleu, Stein attended the Cranbrook Academy in Michigan. He moved to California in 1938 to work with Austrian architect Richard Neutra.
