Lovage (Levisticum officinale) is a perennial herb native to Southern Europe, where it is recorded as having been used as far back as the Middle Ages. This is a large plant, sometimes reaching up to six or seven feet tall and over 30 inches wide. In hot areas or less-than-ideal conditions, it will stay much smaller.
Description. Lovage flowers. Lovage is an erect, herbaceous, perennial plant growing to 1.8–2.5 m (6–8 ft) tall, with a basal rosette of leaves and stems with further leaves, the flowers being produced in umbels at the top of the stems. The stems and leaves are shiny glabrous green to yellow-green and smell somewhat similar to celery when crushed.
