American jazz bandleader and pianist. Born December 15, 1911 in Wichita, Kansas, USA. Died August 25, 1979 in Los Angeles, California, USA. Married to singer Ann Richards 1955-1961. He played in the dance bands of Vido Musso and Gus Arnheim. His first orchestra "Artistry in Rhythm" was formed in 1941.
The fourteen men have grown into forty in the course of the years, and the modest leader has become the most admired, most believed–in spokesman jazz has ever known. American jazz magazines carried reviews of that band in 1941, but that was not the first mention of Stan Kenton in their pages.
