As of 2020, the city has a population of 188,960. Armavir used to be the second-largest industrial center of Krasnodar Krai, after Krasnodar.

It is a rail junction on the line from Rostov-na-Donu to Baku. A branch line runs southwestward from Armavir to the Black Sea coast at Tuapse.
