Colditz (German pronunciation: [ˈkɔldɪts]) is a small town in the district of Leipzig, in Saxony, Germany. It is best known for Colditz Castle , the site of the Oflag IV-C POW camp for officers in World War II .
The series deals with Allied prisoners of war imprisoned at the supposedly escape-proof Colditz Castle when designated Oflag IV-C during World War II, and their many attempts to escape captivity, as well as the relationships formed between the various nationalities and their German captors.
Colditz ist eine Stadt im Landkreis Leipzig in Sachsen, direkt an der Zwickauer Mulde gelegen. Im Ortsteil Sermuth vereinigen sich die Zwickauer und die Freiberger Mulde. Ihre überregionale Bekanntheit verdankt die Stadt dem Schloss Colditz.
Colditz Castle (or Schloss Colditz in German) is a Renaissance castle in the town of Colditz near Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz in the state of Saxony in Germany. The castle is between the towns of Hartha and Grimma on a hill spur over the river Zwickauer Mulde, a tributary of the River Elbe.
