Lyons, with a sketch of what he wanted, commissioned Cyril Holland, a coachbuilder by trade, to create a distinctive, open two seater body. Holland gave it a detachable hardtop with a characteristic back window. The result was announced to public in May 1927, the Austin Seven Swallow.

4 ago 2021 · Initially, Cyril Holland was his chosen stylistic interpreter; the Blackpool native said to have had a symbiotic ability to interpret Lyons' sketches and often vague notations into wood and metal, to highly pleasing effect. However, in the post-war era, he departed, leaving Lyons to find another artisan with whom he could work.
27 set 2022 · Cyril Holland was instrumental in the Austin Seven-Swallow’s inception. He was a coachbuilder, and it was his job to interpret Lyons’ sketches and bring them into reality, effectively tooling and productionising each model. Alongside the Seven, Swallow also rebodied chassis from Fiat, Morris and others.
In late 1928, Swallow added a Seven saloon to its range, which was again designed by Lyons guiding Cyril Holland. With its low-slung looks and the bright two-tone colour schemes, it was a far cry from the Austin’s upright standard model.
