The Morava (German: March, Hungarian: Morva, Polish: Morawa) is a river in Central Europe, a left tributary of the Danube. It is the main river of Moravia, which derives its name from it.
The Morava River rises on the southern slope of Králický Sněžník in the Nízký and Hrubý Jeseník mountains and follows a 227-mile (365-kilometre) course south to enter the Danube River just above Bratislava, Slovakia.

From there to its confluence with the Danube northeast of the city of Smederevo, the Velika Morava is 185 km long. With its longer branch, the West Morava, it is 493 km long.
Geologically, Moravia covers a transitive area [clarification needed] between the Bohemian Massif and the Carpathians (from northwest to southeast), and between the Danube basin and the North European Plain (from south to northeast).

Moravia. The earliest known inhabitants of Moravia, situated to the east of Bohemia, were the Boii and the Cotini, another Celtic tribe. These were succeeded about 15–10 bce by the Germanic Quadi. The Germanic peoples were pushed back from the middle Danube by the coming of the Avars in 567 ce.
