Roger Federer defeated Andy Roddick in the final, 5–7, 7–6 (8–6), 7–6 (7–5), 3–6, 16–14 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 2009 Wimbledon Championships. It was his sixth Wimbledon title and record-breaking 15th major title overall, surpassing Pete Sampras ' all-time record.
