Doubleday is an American publishing company. It was founded as the Doubleday & McClure Company in 1897. By 1947, it was the largest book publisher in the United States. It published the work of mostly U.S. authors under a number of imprints and distributed them through its own stores.

Doubleday's century of publishing began in 1897 when Frank Nelson Doubleday, with remarkable confidence, and a back loan of five thousand dollars, founded Doubleday &McClure Company in partnership with magazine publisher Samuel McClure.
In Walter Hines Page …founded the publishing house of Doubleday, Page and Company (afterward Doubleday and Company, Inc.) and the magazine The World’s Work, which he edited until 1913. In 1911 he was one of the first to propose Woodrow Wilson as a presidential candidate.
21 dic 2021 · Doubleday and Walter Hines Page formed Doubleday, Page & Company. In 1910, Doubleday, Page & Co. moved its operations, which included a train station, to Garden City, New York. In 1922 the company founded its juvenile department, the second in the nation, with May Massee as head.
In 1897, Doubleday, in partnership with magazine publisher Samuel McClure, founded Doubleday & McClure Co. Their partnership only lasted three years; in 1900, the company became Doubleday, Page & Co. when Walter Hines Page joined as a new partner.
