Joanne Kyger (1934-2017) was an American poet associated with various literary movements, such as the San Francisco Renaissance, the Beat Generation, and the New York School. She wrote over 30 books of poetry and prose, influenced by Zen Buddhism, projective verse, and daily life observations.
Associated with the poets of the San Francisco Renaissance, poet Joanne Kyger studied philosophy and literature at the University of California, Santa Barbara, moving to San Francisco in 1957 just before she finished her degree.
