  1. John de Foix, 1st Earl of Kendal. Jean de Foix (c. 1415 – 1485) was the Captal de Buch, first Earl of Kendal (Gallicised into " Comte de Candalle "), Vicomte de Castillon, Meilles and Comte de Benauges.

  2. The title refers to Kendal, a town in Cumbria. The first creation was for John, 4th son of King Henry IV, who was created Earl of Kendal, Earl of Richmond and Duke of Bedford in 1414. The titles became extinct at his death.

He relinquished the Kendal earldom when he chose French nationality.
