Ludwig II (Ludwig Otto Friedrich Wilhelm; 25 August 1845 – 13 June 1886), [1] also called the Swan King or the Fairy Tale King ( der Märchenkönig ), was King of Bavaria from 1864 until his death in 1886. He also held the titles of Count Palatine of the Rhine, Duke of Bavaria, Duke of Franconia, and Duke in Swabia. [2]
Louis the Strict (German: Ludwig der Strenge) (13 April 1229 – 2 February 1294) was Duke of Upper Bavaria and Count Palatine of the Rhine from 1253. ‘Mad’ King Ludwig II of Bavaria is an alluring and enigmatic figure. This crazed king was responsible for building some of the most impressive castles in Europe. The reason that the ‘Fairytale King’ is so interesting is as he’s surrounded in real mystery.

L. Noble. This year is the 125th anniversary of the death of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. The 'fairytale king' or 'Märchenkönig" died at the age of 40 in mysterious circumstances in 1886, when his lifeless body was found floating in Lake Starnberg, south of Munich, together with the corpse of his physician.
