According to tradition, the first doge was elected in 697, but this figure is of dubious historicity and comparable to that of the exarch Paul, who, similarly to the doge, was assassinated in 727 following a revolt.

I've loved the 14th - 18th centuries for a long time and the 16th century has got to be my favorite. I've wanted clothes from that period for a long time. My HEMA group has started doing demonstrations at Renaissance faires and I think it would be really cool to have a historically accurate late 16th century outfit for it.
